871682 2010-04-01 02:54:00 Am going overseas and am thinking of buying a netbook because of its compactness, but I understand they don't come with a CD/DVD drive. Are there any models you can buy locally at the major retailers that come equipped with an internal drive. I know I could buy an external one and use it via a USB port but that would defeat my main purpose. willbry (1555)
871683 2010-04-01 03:21:00 There is an Asus Eee PC 1004DN that has an optical drive....

871684 2010-04-01 03:38:00 Thanks for that. Specs look pretty impressive for a little beast, especially the battery. Wonder if it's readily available and how much? willbry (1555)
871685 2010-04-01 03:56:00 Yep, that's going to be the issue....availability and price.

Otherwise you'll have to look at a small 12.1" notebook model.

871686 2010-04-01 03:59:00 Yeah , have had a look at Price Spy and no one seems to have that model, but your suggestion for a 12.1 inch regular lap top seems a a reasonably good alternative option.
Thanks mate.

871687 2010-04-01 04:05:00 Do you really need an optical drive?
For some it is a change of mindset, but what can't be done via network or USB?

871688 2010-04-01 06:53:00 I want to be able to play CDs and DVD movies, do a bit of burning willbry (1555)
871689 2010-04-01 07:26:00 Fair enough.
Just thought it worth mentioning that it is not really necessary to insert a plastic disc in order to play music or video.

Also, not having an optical drive pretty much eliminates the need to burn. :)

871690 2010-04-01 09:03:00 You can use software that mounts an ISO image of a CD as an alternative to a physical optical drive. pcuser42 (130)
