2009-06-26 09:26:00 | I don't even use text speak when texting, predictive is far easier and quicker | hueybot3000 (3646) | |
2009-06-26 09:35:00 | I have no problems with people using text speak in texts but if they send it to me I send back a question mark, none of my nieces and nephews use it on me now only took one week to train them, saves my eyesight not having to squint at the phone to try and work out what they mean | gary67 (56) | |
2009-06-26 22:19:00 | Great idea Gary. I will try that. Ken

2009-06-27 02:37:00 | txt spk generally isn't particulary difficult to read, it just takes a little longer than plain English. I think your reactions here are a little ott... I'm not questioning text language itself - just the place it is used. On a mobile, sometimes in MSN with your friends, or in counter strike etc when you need to send your chat message quickly so you don't die... I sometimes use it in these situations myself (although like hueybot3000 says, for mobiles predictive is probably faster) BUT on a forum like this one, please don't. I come here of my own choice and spend my time to help people. I don't get paid for it. If someone isn't going to show respect for that and at least try to write their questions using proper english why should I bother trying to understand them?

2009-06-27 07:05:00 | I agree with Agent_24, too - although we're a tad off the OT (no surprise there!). I just ignore anyone who thinks it's OK to use SMS text on a Forum - it's the path of least resistance for me and gives me absolutely no stress. Can't understand its use (except on a phone - although I use full words - for clarity of communication - when I TXT, but then I have a full keyboard on my phone) myself - it must be laziness, because generally, people browsing this forum will be sitting in front of a full-sized keyboard anyway. All the letters are there on the keyboard for a reason people!!!! However it would be good if whoever has replaced Jan (big shoes to fill!) could add a wee note to the Forum Rules. Something along the lines of: 2a. Communicate clearly - please do not use TXT language and expect a response. TXT language might be acceptable for NCEA exams, but it is generally NOT acceptable for real life communication (except perhaps on a phone). EDIT: That's a good link, Chill!
