871756 2010-04-04 10:22:00 Some programs Esp older ones wont run on XP.

Several months ago, I sold a new PC to a customer, they had 6or 7 older programs that would run on XP, but not in W7. Installed XP mode and happy as.

871757 2010-04-04 11:13:00 Can you remember what they were?
I run FTP95, professional file, in Dos Box, Office 2000, Supervoice Fax/Phone dialer, Publisher 2000, Desktop Pro 5, Word Express (came on floppys), Neopaint for Dos, Paint Shop Pro 8, Free Agent Mail, Geno Pro, Homesite 2.5,

I have one spares program which only works in W98 in VMWare.

871758 2010-04-04 11:30:00 The programs were originally designed for W98 - cant remember their names, but from memory 2 were some sort of photo editing programs.

Another one seems to ring a bell was a genealogy program - I know another customer had the same problem with Vista and the program, in the end he brought the latest version - but these other people didn't want to.

871759 2010-04-04 21:22:00 I want XP to run a legacy mapping program that likes to write to folders that are protected in W7 and Vista. There are other workarounds but this looked interesting. If it is satisfactory we may use it at Seniornet instead of dual booting for different operating systems. Dual booting is OK but slow to switch from one OS to another. mcginty (10610)
871760 2010-04-05 03:51:00 I have not tried VMLite, only the full version, cant remember which one.

Have you tried the Microsoft Virtual programs?

If you need to change OS frequently, have you tried closing into hibernation? This may not work with W7 as it may bypass the Boot Menu. try it anyway.
