Metla is pleased with his Trademe Freeview (satellite), and I am thinking of getting one.

784698 2009-06-23 21:31:00 Thanks for all the info

I ended up going with the jc mathews $250 free 2m HDMI cable and good warranty.
Easy as to setup and the difference in quality of picture is like night and day, even shortland street looked good.
Am going to try recording to a usb drive tonight and try playing some mp3s.

784701 2009-06-24 06:57:00 One thing with the JC Matthews boxes is that unless you use it, turn off instant rewind (or whatever it's called). I've found that when using this, which is enabled by default whenever a drive is in the USB port, the whole thing turns to molases, now/next epg starts playing up, and whatnot. Sometimes channels just stay blank.

Other than that, they're ok. If you want to, you can get the recorded files to play back on a PC, though it helps of you have a good setup (HD takes a bit o grunt to play back).

Yeah I have that and put Metla onto them works fine, we can't get HD so don't need to be HD capable for us

784704 2009-06-25 03:05:00 Get one that isn't $2.50 and made in China.

eg: one that will actually work for more than 5 months...

Good luck trying to find any electronics not now made in china :2cents: :2cents:
-exceptions may be expensive Euro made stuff, no guarantee of increased reliability with euro manufactured gear thou.....
