872127 2010-04-02 04:31:00 hi i just put a new CPU, p4 socket 775 3.2GHZ, into an older PC i had as well as new ram and hdds (one containing xp prof) but on startup it asks me to set up the new cpu in the cmos menu, i tried skiping this step but it went through a long process and went back to that screen after several minutes but now the message doesn't pop up anymore what do i need to do in the bios to get it working?

thanks

872128 2010-04-02 04:34:00 I get that all the time on new Builds.

First thing I do is go in, set the correct time & Date, make sure the boot order is Optical/HDD, plus alter a few other things, and then load in the OS.

Doesn't get that message after the first setup. ( unless you change the CPU of course)

872130 2010-04-02 04:53:00 hi, something is missing in the windows install can you please give me a link to an xp professional recovery disk download smithinator (15240)
872131 2010-04-02 05:04:00 This here (forums.pcpitstop.com) says its the Recovery Console.

Its NOT the actual Windows CD that will contain / allow replacement of missing files - you will need a XP Install CD for that.

If you are installing a new motherboard on an old /pre installed System, you may have problems.

872132 2010-04-02 05:04:00 You may be better to borrow an instalation CD & see if you can do a restore from that. Driftwood (5551)
