I used to live in Huntington Beach, California, and that's an approach vector for Orange County Airport/John Wayne Airport which is about 8 miles to the ENE of there.

That is the famous "Surf City" beach of Jan & Dean fame right below it.

785360 2009-06-24 05:04:00 8 miles...ok.

I didn't look that far away for an airport, I thought the plane was very low.

Would it be an A300?

785361 2009-06-24 05:07:00 Prolly - I don't recognize the colors of it or any aircraft much any more either. They have come-n-gone, went into business and back out again so fast here in the US that they have temporary paper logos duct-taped on the wings.

They don't even re-paint them.

785362 2009-06-24 05:09:00 Actually, I don't think the A300 has the upswept wing ends. I was thinking of the A340 but that's a 4 engine plane.

Boeing didn't do any planes like that...

How about an A330?

785363 2009-06-24 05:12:00 They put a lot of the Hoerner tips on planes for OCA/John Wayne because they generated such high powered sheers and vortex disturbance that they were flipping private aircraft over on their approach even 5 minutes behind a "heavy". SurferJoe46 (51)
785364 2009-06-24 05:19:00 Crikey, that'd give you a fright. wratterus (105)
