872746 2010-04-04 07:45:00 Can someone please recommend a user-friendly reader I can download and use it to open and read some attachments sent as docx.
I am using XP.
At the moment I am forwarding them to husband's pc for him to print off.

Thanks,
Marnie

872747 2010-04-04 07:47:00 You could try open office. (www.openoffice.org.nz) I think it opens .docx files. And its free so just click on download and give it a go. ronyville (10611)
872748 2010-04-04 07:48:00 Do you have Microsoft 2003 installed? If not, you can download Word Viewer from here: www.microsoft.com

Plus the compatibility pack that you need to install: www.microsoft.com

However, if you have already had Office 2003 installed, then all you need to do is to download the compatibility pack.

Alternative methods that I can think of would be to upload the file to an online converter and download it as .doc. An example of such method would be Google Documents.

Cheers :)

872750 2010-04-04 10:10:00 Thanks for your replies. I do have Open Office, maybe I just need to upgrade it. Marnie (4574)
872751 2010-04-04 10:26:00 Like Jamuz and others have said, only thing I'd add is the .docx .pptx .xlsx Compatibility Pack (www.microsoft.com) works for Office 2000, Office XP and Office 2003 so if you have any of those it's a good option.

cheers
