2010-04-04 12:17:00 | There's no such animal as a good $1500 PC. All you'll get for that is what is euphamisticly called "entry level". The comp that I linked to would be far more than adequate once 2x4850's were replaced with a 5850. Assuming that $1500 doesn't include mouse/keyboard etc. Overclockable Quad Core, 4GB RAM, 4850. Would almost all games on ultra high settings at 19*10. Would probably survive 25*16 on high settings too. Although if you can afford 25*16, you'd definitely have a better rig than this. Your stratosphere dwelling hardware precludes you from judging us mere mortals on entry level.

2010-04-05 03:52:00 | You can get a pretty good setup for around $1500, if you exclude everything outside the case. Just make sure you get a good PSU... Pricespy can be useful.

2010-04-06 03:23:00 | uuh woops havent been home for a while. only need a 1gb gfx card. monitor and keyboard and mouse are not included in the 1500 ish.a 500gb hdd would do. i think only the graphics card would be the big thing for me. i was wanting a nvidia 200 series or an ati. not too great with any of this stuff. | nerd (109) | |
2010-04-06 06:45:00 | Ok you could try something like case $150 CPU - i5 750 - $375 Mobo - Asus P7P55D E LX - $240 Ram - cheapest 4Gig 1333 - $250ish Graphics - 4890 if you can find one but if you want an awesome one then your looking at about $700 PSU - Corsair or Enermax 650watt - $200-$250 Hard drive - 500Gig - $110 Your looking at about 2k with that and thats using a cheap mobo (but good brand) and rubbish ram so no overclocking for you :groan: With your budget your probaly better looking at a overclocked core2 system and spending as much as you can on the graphics. Otherwise keep saving

2010-04-06 06:58:00 | umm. i was talkin to this pc builder at the shop and after a bit of upgrading i got it to: quad core 620 2.6ghz (whats the 620 for?) 24" monitor 18x dual layer dvd writer (think thats a little slow? doesnt matter tho) 1tb sata hdd 1 gb gfx. dont know which one to pick but for the price that ill put on later its a nvidia 240 no os ddr3 4gb ram. the comp had ddr2 but i wanted ddr3 cuz its newer but if it doesnt matter then it saves me $40. he said i could get this with a keyboard and mouse as well for about 1700. im pretty keen but i dont know if its a good deal or not. is it a good comp and would you buy it for that much?

2010-04-06 08:24:00 | what sorta mobo? And what brands. Youd be silly to buy without knowing brands. And if you can build it yourself you could save 100 bucks or so, and get a more reliable warranty/ better brands | hueybot3000 (3646) | |
2010-04-06 09:56:00 | The one I posted earlier: CPU - AMD Athlon II X3 720 (www.pp.co.nz) -$200 (3.7GHZ is a common OC for this CPU) MoBo - Gigabyte GA-MA790GPT-UD3H (www.pp.co.nz) - $236 (The 4th core of the CPU can be unlocked with this mobo Mobo.) RAM - G.Skill Ripjaws (www.pp.co.nz) - $231 GPU - Gigabyte 5850 (www.pp.co.nz) - $509 HDD - Seagate Barracuda 1TB (www.pp.co.nz) -$183 $150 for a case with OK ventilation. $100 for a CPU cooler. $150-170 for a 600W PSU. $70 for a DVD drive and you have yourself a deal for just over $1800. You could cut these components back, but I think you'd compromise performance for saving a tiny amount. Also, the amount of RAM on a video card doesn't tell you what performance it will give. The 5850 is the best value kick-ass GPU you can get at the moment.

2010-04-06 11:28:00 | I recently got myself a 5870 for around $650, normally I go with a golden rule of $500 or less for a vid card, and I totally agree that the 5850 is an awesome card, best bang for buck at the moment if you can swing it. | Deimos (5715) | |
