873271 2010-04-05 07:42:00 Hi Gang. Currently have a wireless network using a Linksys WAG54G v3. I have an HP ethernet capable printer (which is already set upo on the network) that I now need to move to another room for space readons. Only problem is that there is no wireless ability on the printer and no ethernet to that room - and the missus won't let me run a cable out the lounge, around the cornert and across the hall :p

What are options are there for a wireless bridge? repeater? (not sure of exact terminology I need)? Basically I want something that will pick upi the wireless signal in the other room and provide an ethernet port I can plug the printer into.

Hoping someone can offer me a solution that isn't too expensive.

873273 2010-04-05 21:13:00 You Would need a router capable of "bridging" or a wireless print server. The print server would be better because it's designed for printing but both will work fine. just what ever is cheaper. The Error Guy (14052)
873274 2010-04-05 21:23:00 Connect a wireless adapter to the computer you want to connect to the printer to. Then connect the printer to it. The printer DOESNT have to be wireless to print to it. I've done it myself (used a wireless adapter), and it prints fine. Just configure it and the router. And add the printer (the same way you would, if it were connected with a cable) Speedy Gonzales (78)
873275 2010-04-05 21:25:00 does it have usb? If so maybe you could use an Airport Express. I currently am with my laser printer. nedkelly (9059)
873276 2010-04-05 22:30:00 Speedy - the PCs on the network are all going to be in different rooms from the printer. It won't be near a computer to connect to.

I can see that what I will need is either a wireless print server for it or a wireless router capable of bridging the connection from my current one.

Any one of these look suitable?

873277 2010-04-05 22:59:00 Buy a WRT54GL and flash DD-WRT onto it, setting it up in "Repeater bridge" mode.

Cost you around $100, and it can be used for more than just printing that way, plus it'll boost your Wireless signal giving greater coverage around your home.

Attach any ethernet device to the back and it'll be bridged to the Wireless automatically. Easy :D

Setup is dead simple, takes approx 10 -> 15 minutes including flashing. :)
