787884 2009-07-01 09:44:00 I see National and JK are going to get rid of this and give the Maori a big payout for doing what having a Hikoi and marching on Parliament. It should be crown owned and nothing else, why give out another payout for something like this. I know it's not official yet but it will be. :horrified:horrified

OK rant over

787885 2009-07-01 10:29:00 Does a big payout mean they can't ***** about it any more? If so... yes! the_bogan (9949)
787886 2009-07-01 10:49:00 As far as im concerned if it isnt privately owned then its crown land or for public use.

No Maori has the right to claim anything that their ancestors owned all those years ago.

i whole heartedly agree with that.

various iwi or whatever have received hundreds of millions of $$$$ for land etc, i think they're just being greedy

787888 2009-07-01 11:07:00 they go further than greedy.

A sub developement near hillmorton here in chch is a great example. My boss was looking at building a house there but got fed up with all the "rules" that whatever iwi had.

House had to have 5 design features, and a certain amount of bush/grass. It just got stupid

787889 2009-07-01 12:38:00 I feel that no one who has posted in this thread so far actually understands anything surrounding this law and its review. roddy_boy (4115)
787890 2009-07-01 19:53:00 Oh Roddy Boy go ahead and enlighten us then, I understand Nats are looking at repealing the law to appease their buddies in the Maori party and help them make another huge claim for money gary67 (56)

Probably, but therein lies the problem .
If a taxpayer-funded payout results, there are hundreds of other "claims" lined up right behind them, for all sorts of things .
The gravy train should have been derailed generations ago .

Blame the National Party for that under Jim Bolger .

787893 2009-07-01 20:59:00 A well-meaning "Let's just pay them out & get it over with, so it doesn't drag on for generations".

Hasn't worked out that way, though.
