2010-04-12 04:09:00 | Nomad, Orcon is my ISP and that was my 'webspace'. Yes, they'll sell some to me for a few dollars a month, but our activity is all non-profit, hobby based and doesn't warrant spending money. (My wife would kill me if I spent any more!!) Thanks Gary, about the PM thing - that would have been it. Cheers - Kirk

2010-04-12 04:50:00 | ic .. I thought you said free host. Don't Orcon give you a proper 10 or 20MB website host without advertisement? I'm not with Orcon as an ISP but I got a free host off them for 5 or such size, I thought the advertising was only for non-paid Orcon ISP customers.

2010-04-12 05:08:00 | Hi All, Yes, quite so Bevy - about 5:47. Right - further discussions with Orcon and I have the good oil, or bad oil in this case. Very much as you all said here. There's no traffic logs kept for free hosting. As it's 'free' it either works or it doesn't and you takes what you get! They say it's happeming to everyone 'all over the place' and is getting in with the Google ads. Google won't do anything as they get money for their ads and that's all that matters. (Just try and contact Google - no phone number or email or anything) New passwords won't make any difference. I noticed my r attributes had all changed back to rw, as well. So, looks like the bad guys win. I'll find an alternative, safer site to put my stuff on. Regards to all, Kirk If orcon have admitted it is happening to everyone, and it is something to do with the google adverts, then they should pull the adverts off. However I would be surprised if it was anything to do with google. It sounds like they have a security problem with their server, perhaps using old versions. That is one of the things about 'free' There are far better alternatives out there.

2010-04-12 07:10:00 | I think orcon just say whatever comes into the persons head that your talking to at the time. I too would be very surprised if it was "happening to everyone 'all over the place' and is getting in with the Google ads" If it was Google - they would not let that continue very long at all lets face it, they have much better tech know-how than some script kiddies! :) I still think it could also have been some kind of shell on there, and thats why they were able to change the index file Attributes as well Normally they would be 644, (-rw-r--r--)

2010-04-12 09:24:00 | I think orcon just say whatever comes into the persons head that your talking to at the time. He did sound a little 'vague' at times ! Just going through the motions... If it was Google - they would not let that continue very long at all One would like to think so... but after discovering they hide behind no phone number or email address, they've gone way down in my estimation. Any reputable business should be contactable. At least Mozilla show one here in NZ - even if it is the local bar ! Perhaps they have a seat reserved ? To conclude, is there an easy yes/no to this? Can I have a text message (or a graphic) display on my site without requiring an html file ?

2010-04-17 13:53:00 | To all who particpated in the thread, thank you. The culprit has been found. www.derkeiler.com I'm amazed how long ago this was discovered, and how StatCounter still plods on, unless it's a new infiltration. My apologies to Orcon, although they did give me several bum steers. The site has moved and my Orcon page will be binned - as soon as I figure out how to. Cheers - Kirk
