2010-04-11 10:56:00 | Thank you all, but I'm quite happy with what I have...when it's not hacked into ! I don't really consider it all that free - I pay Orcon about $120 a month and presumably they get some kind of revenue from the ads. Actually it was no good for file transfers outside NZ, everybody complained it went so slow, things timed out ! So now there's just links to a UK Server. But as it's free, no real complaints. And even if they weren't much help at least they answered the phone - and spoke English :) Cheers - Kirk The amount you pay them wouldn't be for the free hosting, as anyone can get that free hosting, whether you are an orcon cusomter or not. I used to have it, prior to them putting ads on it, then I ditched it, even though I have never been an orcon cusomter. You will find that it is provided as is, and not really covered by their support. To provide hosting support, you really need to use a specialist comapny, as it requires specialist support.

2010-04-11 11:00:00 | Hahaha how ironic! I just grabbed that as the first result from a quick google search - no real research at all... the OP happens to be my father (who started me off as a techie at about 5 years old) and he's quite "on to it" - if he was referring to anything other than his Orcon FTP password he'd be significantly ridiculed at our next meeting, which I'm willing to bet he'd do almost anything to avoid :) | com64 (15718) | |
2010-04-11 12:04:00 | please don't take this the wrong way, but if he's quite "on to it" he would have known that line of code had nothing to do with Google ads in the first place, and would certainly have known about editing files on the server with ftp client long ago there is probably still a shell hidden there somewhere.... As I said earlier, the offer to help still stands....

2010-04-11 14:30:00 | 1.20am and all's well :) No, I may not be right onto it... and no offense taken, but I did believe the guy at Orcon who assured me (although I had my suspicions!) that the offending line was a Google ad component. As for editing on line - well yes - but you see, I'd never needed to do that before. All that doesn't really matter, and for the first time in a number of days it's been 12 hours+ with no 'attack'. I'm reluctant to believe - yet - it's down to the attribute change. Thanks for the offer to Help - actually, you said to PM you and I spent some time trying to figure out HOW - then gave up!

2010-04-11 15:13:00 | :) just click my name and you'll see a drop-down menu, one of the selections is send a pm and the offer to help is for anytime at all - I actually enjoy the challenge of finding and fixing these things where I can! lol The PM was just for a first contact - then for any real conversation, an I.M. chat would be the best like msn Anyway, hope it's ok for you now, but if you do need help with that or anything else at anytime, don't hesitate to give me a yell by PM (now that you know how to do that as well :) ) cheers

2010-04-11 15:39:00 | Thanks Bevy, you know I'd bet money I tried that to PM you! But no banana... It's almost an anti-climax now... no infestations at all... like the bugger knows we're looking out for him ! Certainly, next time it happens I'll timestamp details and see if Orcon can use the info and in the meantime will keep files read only. Any further "activity" I'll add to this thread and thanks to everyone (and com64!) for input and comments.. it all helps - just sharing the problem. It was a right bast**rd - appearing to those that use my site as somehow responsible. Cheers - Kirk

2010-04-11 19:36:00 | That was probably before you had 10 posts and you can't do PM's until you have made 10 posts | gary67 (56) | |
2010-04-12 00:43:00 | Hate to be the bearer of bad news Kirk, but the servicios.php is there again on your main page and also ......./ReleaseNotes.html ......./MissingBSides-1963.html ......./bb99.html

2010-04-12 02:23:00 | Hi All, Yes, quite so Bevy - about 5:47. Right - further discussions with Orcon and I have the good oil, or bad oil in this case. Very much as you all said here. There's no traffic logs kept for free hosting. As it's 'free' it either works or it doesn't and you takes what you get! They say it's happeming to everyone 'all over the place' and is getting in with the Google ads. Google won't do anything as they get money for their ads and that's all that matters. (Just try and contact Google - no phone number or email or anything) New passwords won't make any difference. I noticed my r attributes had all changed back to rw, as well. So, looks like the bad guys win. I'll find an alternative, safer site to put my stuff on. Regards to all, Kirk

2010-04-12 02:32:00 | Does you current ISP give you web space? I have now deleted my Orcon free host site. To me I wasn't aware of those things, well won't have the knowledge anyway :p I was just a bit bothered with the adverts appearing on my site.
