788632 2009-07-05 23:41:00 I've been trying to locate an example of a good quality debate for our participants to learn from. Although I haven't watched the whole thing, this video seems promising: video.google.com

Note that in this style of debating there are "points of information" - you may hear and see speakers stand up to offer points of information to the speaker on the floor. They are a bit more like a formal way of doing interjections - teams can offer points of information between the first and seventh minute of speeches (within an 8 minute speech), but it is ultimately up to the speaker on the floor to accept or decline them. This will not be relevant for us here.

Here is a video of the world champs in 2008 between NZ and England (unfortunately England won this debate 5-4). These are two of the best teams in the world, debating a very difficult topic: video.google.com

In 2009, the two teams met again in the finals, and NZ won 6-1.

788633 2009-07-06 13:09:00 Our team has come up with the order of posters but we were waiting to see what we, as a team, had to refute and or debate.

As far as I see it, we are working on it.

According to the rules the team I am part of has 48 hours to come up with the first Negative which means the first person has until 11:10pm on the 7th July 2009 which is today.

Rest assured there will be a reply before that time. Our Team will put up rather than shutup.

Hope you all have your clocks set.

788635 2009-07-06 13:55:00 Sounds good to me too.

The research I and my Team have done so far has been an experience I should not have missed and thanks for bringing it up.

Good luck to your Team.

788638 2009-07-07 06:52:00 Great to see some clash. It'll be good to see what the affirmative team's response is. somebody (208)
788639 2009-07-07 07:36:00 I must aplogise to the rest of the team in so far as I was going to send them my reply before I posted in the official debate via a PM. PMs are limited to 5000 characters and my reply was 5992 or something like that.

No point in cutting it so was sent anyway.

For the future it may be best to consult via phone or Email for the next debate if we have another.

That is characters rather than words.

Makes note to use shorter words.:o
