789062 2009-07-05 21:49:00 Thats great but can you help with my problem. Driftwood (5551)
789063 2009-07-05 22:48:00 Well, if yours is the same brand and diameter (SVEC, 750mm) as mine, I could give you the measurements from my dish. R2x1 (4628)
789064 2009-07-06 01:06:00 With a signal meter (Satellite finder - $30 from tricky Dicky) you could use trial and error until the best signal strength is obtained. seltsam (13470)
789065 2009-07-06 02:23:00 I have actually got one of those but it wouldn't tune in properly.
That's when I realised what the problem was.
I have bent the arm back roughly to where I think it was but I would rather get it correct before putting the thing back up on the roof.

789066 2009-07-06 03:00:00 i'm a bit rusty but offset angle is generally angle off centre line.
with offset disk focal length from dish varies.

unfortunately you took the whole dish down which makes it harder. if you had just taken the arm off you could have fixed it then bent it into place till the signal was the best.

frankly unless you can find a dish to copy from it may be easier to buy another.
otherwise just get it roughly right and hope you can get it lined up ok with the sat. with a bit of mucking around you should be able to get it in the ballpark.

its disgusting that they call the Satellite finders signal meters :(

789067 2009-07-06 04:19:00 I wasn't too worried about loosing the setting by taking it down.
It was never mounted properly in the first place.
Because of the slope of the roof it wasn't possible to mount the base plumb wthout modifying it.
We just bolted it down & lined it up with the meter.
It's worked fine for 18 months until this happened.
I'm going to use this opertunity to modify the base correctly.

If it's the same as this one, then it is identical.

i wouldn't worry about it. having the mount plumb simply makes it easier to line up to the sat (and it looks neater). much more important to have it mounted securely. I've seen too many houses with badly installed dishes that have damaged the house.

Mine is probably even more identical than that - I'll measure 'er up in the morning, weather permitting.

789071 2009-07-06 11:50:00 That would be great.
Weather permitting I will be modifying the mount tomorrow.
It's mounted on the side of a valley on a tiled hip roof.
