874288 2010-04-08 08:57:00 Got a A7S8X-MX mobo here that I need to add an AGP vid card to. The vid card is an ASUS V9250/128MB. It came out of a W2K box that needed two monitor outputs. It worked fine in this W2K box with no onboard vid.

The 'new' box with A7S8X mobo with onboard vid runs XP and I am having trouble getting the agp card recognized. I am getting post beeps and no vid from either mobo or agp card.

Can't readily find a manual and am a bit stumped and need this fixed by tomorrow! Set BIOS to allow two monitors and set startup mon to agp but still won't work.

Any ideas where I am going wrong?? TIA.

874289 2010-04-08 09:13:00 Looks like its a common prob with this mobo (vip.asus.com). There's a few posts here, with people having the same prob Speedy Gonzales (78)
874290 2010-04-08 09:41:00 Thanks, Speedy . Tried another agp card and same post error beeps . You wonder how ASUS can produce an agp slot that doesn't seem to work .

We're all probably rusty with agp! I know I am . Wonder if it is an agp speed thing??? The 2x, 4x 8x thingy comes to mind . Both these mobos have one divider in the socket whereas the cards have two slots .

Looks like I am in a pickle with this - just want a second VGA out! My VERY old PCI cards won't cut it - one blue screened XP!!

874291 2010-04-08 09:50:00 So you want to use the onboard and this card as well?? Dont think thats going to happen. It'll probably disable the onboard video. Or do you mean, connect another monitor with this AGP card? What connections does it have on it? VGA/S-video? Heres the manual (dlcdnas.asus.com) Speedy Gonzales (78)
874292 2010-04-08 10:06:00 I don't need the mobo vid. This card has analog, DVI and TV out and I really need all three (one to monitor, one to projector and a TV is connected as well). It worked fine in the old W2K setup.

The mobo has an agp 3.0 slot at 1.5V. The agp card is agp 1.0 but it has the 1.5V slot. Bloody frustrating when I just thought it would transfer over!

874293 2010-04-08 10:22:00 If XP doesnt recognise it, whats it say in device manager, under the card's entry? Does it show an error code? If you tried to install the drivers for it, what drivers did you use? ATI's or the ASUS ones? Speedy Gonzales (78)
874294 2010-04-08 10:41:00 I get a few error beeps at POST and then nothing. No video at all even from mobo vid socket. I would love to get a chance to install drivers! linw (53)
874295 2010-04-08 10:48:00 On most earlier ASUS mobos, there's a red LED by the AGP port. Or between the AGP port and a PCI card slot.Does it light up? Speedy Gonzales (78)
874296 2010-04-08 10:51:00 Can't see any LED but the good news is that it has fired up and is displaying on the monitor!!

I had another fiddle in the BIOS and set the agp shared memory up from 32MB to 128MB and that seemed to do the trick (crossed fingers) .

Thanks for support, Speedy . Hope I am go now .
