| 1451355 | 2018-07-08 21:16:00 | My Whirlaway waste disposer has died. It's done 17 years so I guess I shouldn't be too disappointed, but I need to repair/replace it. Any recommendations for (a) a repairer (in Auckland, preferably West), (b) brands if I do have to replace it? TIA |

| 1451359 | 2018-07-10 09:40:00 | For a good gobble-it-up bulk food disposer, ask any parent of a teenager. :D I have actually bought an Insinkerator Model 66 at Hardly Normal, at a reasonably good price. Then spent the afternoon installing it. One stage involves offering the unit up to the mounting part attached to the sink and then twisting a ring to lock it in place. You needed to be considerably stronger than me to hold it up with one hand, and I ended up standing it on top of my car scissor jack and lifting it into place. So now I have a shiny new waste disposer that I won't have to worry about for another 17 years (yeah, right). Thanks everyone for the suggestions and advice. |

There is a big list of things you shouldn't put in them, and of the stuff you can, well, the wastewater people won't like you much. Akld is getting kitchen/garden waste bins soon anyway, if you don't compost just chuck the stuff in the rubbish. |

As long as the new one lasts a decent time I'll be OK with that too. My septic system is a worm farm, so in fact the food waste is very good for that. |
