1450800 2018-06-21 19:54:00 ...or parents had one? I have a copper one that my father in law had. a much treasured possession

I have memories stopping at Mercer by the riverside and Dad boiling up while Mum put the rug down and got out the corned beef sandwhiches.

Those were the days, late 40's / early 50's

Maybe that is why my uncle had one - he was a railway guard!

There is a wonderful quote from either Denis Glover or ARD Fairburn, responding to a nasty cuppa at Mercer: "The squalid tea of Mercer is not strained." Who gets it? First correct answer makes a good cuppa.

1450806 2018-06-21 23:08:00 We never stopped at Mercer, no need to as home was Tuakau, in those days the best part of 45 minutes drive away, now only 15. But yes, the family did possess one of those gadgets and they were nothing short of brilliant. Not sure I'd be lining up to purchase a new one at $236 including postage though.

:)
