1450746 2018-06-19 22:52:00 Did you know that you could recycle soft plastic? Soft plastic is the plastic that many bags are made of - bread and potato bags for example. It is also used in chocolate and sweet bars such as Kit Kat.

It is plastic that we used to throw away until our daughter told us about it. We now collect it in a soft plastic bag and drop it off at the supermarket when shopping.

Just another thing that you can recycle to help save the planet.:clap

1450747 2018-06-19 23:00:00 The local council won't take it though, and personally my recycling is limited to what I can't put out at the gate.
But I do collect the empty shopping bags and have a couple of friends that like to take them and use them for things, so I guess in a way I'm already recycling those.

exactly.
All nice in theory, but I bet most will now just go into storage, untill we find another 3rd world country to take out trash & make us fell better about it.
Recycling can be a very dirty business.
If we wanted to save the planet, we wouldnt be sending our trash of overseas.
But that would cost us alot of money to truly recycle

Being green in NZ is banning plastic shopping bags, then totally ignoring all the plastic wrapping that nearly everything comes in.

Exactly. Good point. Sorry about that, Bonzo.

1450753 2018-06-20 00:25:00 Ak council now has a separate collection for recycling food waste, in a separate bin. It will cost all ratepayers $65 per year, regardless if they need it (I have 3 garden composting bins)
Is this big brother recycling gone too far ? More feel good fad than common sense ?

1450754 2018-06-20 02:25:00 Give all your plastic bags to Greenpeace. They feed them to whales and turtles going by their TV adds. CliveM (6007)
1450755 2018-06-20 19:24:00 You may well recycle your soft plastic.

But can you tell us what factory or plant in NZ uses it and converts it into what?

Most recycling in NZ is a joke.

It is not economic to recycle many items, due to high costs of sorting, cleaning, transport etc etc.

We were not told that much of our "recycled" material was going to China!
