1449396 2018-05-09 00:34:00 I live in Auckland, but my Android phone has started feeding me ads all about Invercargill. How come? Tony (4941)
1449397 2018-05-09 02:53:00 It's part of our underground movement to save Aucklanders from themselves by distributing the more worthy ones around the country. You have been assigned to Invercargill.

Or maybe you just searched something that led google to believe you were interested in Invercargill, that's almost as likely.

1449398 2018-05-09 03:16:00 Thank you for describing me as "more worthy" - you know me so well. :) I can't think of anything I've searched for that would lead me in the direction of the deep south. I've also noticed on the PC that Speedtest usually links me to a server in Wellington, but I suspect that is because of the location of my ISP. Tony (4941)

perhaps those ph's are so old , that its assumed Invercargill is the only place with matching old tech
The crank handle on the side of the ph is a sign its time to upgrade . :)

1449401 2018-05-11 23:14:00 It's a conspiracy to confuse people! I have a static IP address on my ADSL line, and I regularly get told that I'm in Auckland (and occasionally other places) even though I'm based in Porirua.

(A nudge towards an serious answer: the info used by some systems to figure out where you are is, at best, an approximation, and isn't as accurate as GPS)

It got the right country at least ;)

Not NZ, but perhaps a similar issue?

Interesting, but I think not applicable. That would imply I've been in the deep south recently so that those towers were the closest. That's certainly not true. Still, an interesting insight into how roaming works.
