1449248 2018-05-29 07:26:00 After some wranglings with Spark, I finally received a reply from them:

"Hi xxx

Thank you for your email

This is a known issue that our email vendors are currently working on (Still under investigation). Just to give you an update the new xtra security filter should be updated in webmail next month (The SLA could change depends on the Maintenance).

So, for the meantime, you'll need to mark these emails as SPAM in webmail (Once you tag these SPAM email will take a couple of days to take affect). The spam emails that are coming through will be different/variants of the ones that the customer has received and are being blocked.

These variants may show the same email address that is seen, however that is not where the spam email has been sent.

Spam is indeed the scourge of the internet and it’s an ongoing battle keeping in front of these very clever yet devious groups of users. Following is an update on Spam prevention and what Spark are doing.

The overall instances of Spam hitting the Xtramail platform has increased over 500% in the last year and while our spam filter stops a vast majority even a very small percentage getting through is substantial.

We’re working really hard with our email vendor to improve the catch rate of spam and we’ve just completed testing an addition of a second spam filter to the platform which performed successfully during the tests and we think it will make a huge difference when it’s deployed in three weeks or so.

That second filter is also used by Google, so once we add it we should have a compelling spam solution of:

Two industry leading spam filters (Cloudmark and Vade secure). Vade Secure is also used by Gmail.
A spam alerting process ( via the spam button) that uses customer information to quickly contain spam that gets past the filters.
Real time blacklisting to block suspect IP’s.
Honeypot initiative to stop locally generated spam.

We do accept that we’ll never stop 100% of spam 100% of the time and that there will potentially be times when there are spurts of activity as these sophisticated spammers discover new ways around filters and other initiatives.

Spam is an annoying side effect of modern emails and the balancing act of trying to block spam whilst allowing legitimate emails through is indeed a fine line.

We believe the above initiatives will significantly reduce spam. Rest assured we have a great team of vigilant professionals constantly across international platforms, customer feedback, spam reports and proactive policing, to stem this plague at the root wherever possible. In reality, spam will always be there, but we’re doing our level best to hit it hard as and when we see it appear.

Thank You "

Poor spark/telecom.
They have gone from one crappy email host , to a 2nd crappy email host to a 3rd crappy email host.
What an ongoing headache for them.
To their credit, they are persisting & doing something to try & put it right (finally)

Vodafone just gave up completely & said, we cant cope with spam so we'll shut down the free email . Easier to get rid of the service than fix the
problem :badpc:

1449250 2018-05-30 02:12:00 If Google and some other can handle it, why can't those 'hired' by Spark or Vodafone handle it? It's not rocket science, is it?

They prefer to pay $M to a CEO but not willing to spend a fraction of it on their services.

1449251 2018-06-06 01:49:00 At last, Spark has done their job to filter those SPAM emails. For the last two days, my Inbox is clean and free of spam emails.

I have the feeling that Spark's new email server sold our details to those spammers. They have stopped it under pressure from their 'boss - spark'

Misty: How's your situation?

1449252 2018-06-06 01:57:00 I have the feeling that Spark's new email server sold our details to those spammers.

What actually happened was xtra email adresses , old emails & contacts were stolen from yahoo, then sold to sapmmers .

1449253 2018-06-06 02:27:00 Yes. That was before. Honestly, I received very little spams, maybe, one or two spams a WEEK before the change over.

After the change over, I was receiving around 20~40 spams everyday! I strongly feel that information has been sold to spammers by the new email company.

Fortunately, Spark has done some very positive actions. GOOD ON YOU, SPARK.

Really? I just got 7 yesterday and two today, much more than in the same period over the last two weeks. I have tried a spam filter which filters out any email with the combination of 'jbrown' if that is the first part of your email address. After all, how many valid emails start with 'Hi jbrown...'? This seems to have captured the majority of spam emails. It won't deal with the graphic only spams though but at least it has cut it down at present.

I don't get any for the last two days. What a relief!

Hope it keeps that way.
