1448944 2018-04-28 09:45:00 Maybe I now have it right and won't bug anyone again. I have used EasyBCD and so far it looks ok but I have said that before....! Bryan (147)
1448945 2018-04-28 09:48:00 Maybe I now have it right and won't bug anyone again. I have used EasyBCD and so far it looks ok but I have said that before....! That is saying the boot loader is in the wrong place and Easy BCD is correcting it. As long as its working OK alls well :) wainuitech (129)
1448946 2018-04-28 09:49:00 If you have issues again. Maybe you can try Windows 10 - create system image to USB.
I would imagine a lot of people are using USB drives and Microsoft might cater for that.
Assuming you don't have a external SATA port on the machine.

What CAN give problems is if the SSD drive is connected VIA USB, cloned, then connected to SATA = Rasspppppppp

Which is what I've been trying to do with an EVo860. Keeps telling me error at the end of cloning so will try disconnecting one hard drive and using it's feed.

1448948 2018-04-29 22:10:00 as above, allways install the new drive & clone to the new drive when its installed in the pc

Also, some brand name PC/laptops have non standard partitioning with up to 6 partitions , some cloning software cant cope with that mess . :)

1448949 2018-05-03 21:25:00 Well I've done a chk disc on my C drive, and altered the size of the partition. Also connected the SSD directly into PC.Still shows an error at the 99% mark.
Next I'll try to load an image from my C drive onto the SSD using Active.

Next I'll try to load an image from my C drive onto the SSD using Active. Normally I would use Active as well, but was in a bit of a hurry, so I installed AOMEI Backupper www.aomeitech.com That has an option to clone to a SSD and makes changes along the way.

Once the SSD is attached, boot into windows normally, then set the clone going (no need to make a bootable CD) once cloned, turn off PC, disconnect the original Drive change the SSD to the original Drives SATA - and as long as its cloned correctly away it goes.

Mind you, mine was a Standard install, not like 1101 posted some weird partition layout that manufactures like HP, Dell use.

1448951 2018-05-04 21:50:00 Thanks wainuitech.
Did install AOMEI but it gets to the screen where it recommends you tick "Align partition to optimize for SSD" and up pops a screen saying you need the Pro version to do that.
Did you not bother with the Align bit?

Have upgraded to the latest Active Image. In the Clone help files it mentions that you have to select the Active option to make a bootable drive.Fair enough, but it then goes on to say that the original drive won't then be bootable. Which has thrown me!! As I still want the original bootable in case....!
Or is that just when you leave the original in as well!
Just have a normal setup that I put together years ago.C drive 160Gb and 3 other 1TB drives.
Thanks again.

1448952 2018-05-05 02:17:00 Well, had a think and found I have Mini Tool Pro (paid for) which has an optional wizard to do it.Had to let it do a reboot and clone C while Windows was offline. And using an external USB thingy too.

Booted back up from my old C drive OK.
So shut it down and connected the SSD.

WOW.

The old drive takes about 3 minutes to fully load Windows, this thing takes under 30 seconds! Amazing. And programs just open before I ask them to!!
So thanks for all the info on this site, well worth coming here for years! And just when I was thinking I'm too old for this hassle!
