1451034 2018-06-30 23:44:00 Factory workers don't appear to strike. I think some don't get the chance - since many get laid off. I have known some that have - and many work laborious long sweat hog hours. My son did. Not needed anymore. Off to perth soon. His in-laws have set him up for work. Option to also work in Melbourne to join my brothers, nephews if he wants.

Nurses - Do they get laid off? Lucky - in a sense- to be employed seemingly forever in public health. Why don't they change careers, upskill or exit NZ then?

I know a few senior nurse that have been "restructured" out of their jobs only to be replaced by two new nursing grads or a couple of imports which work cheaper than a senior nurse.

They do have a set budget....if the costs of everyone working there goes up it impacts on how many surgeries etc they can do....then you get people whining about waiting lists.

I don't have an awful lot of sympathy, they're not low paid by any means, and I've met a few who seem to think they're the doctor and have an attitude.

1451037 2018-07-01 05:12:00 Yep. Labour's back in along with the "Me Too" unions.
There's one question that isn't ever asked when the question is "Do nurses deserve a pay rise" the answer will certainly be YES.
But the unasked question is "what is their pay at present". eg Say their current pay is $150 pa (Which it isn't but say for argument sake that it is) Then the answer will be a resounding NO. So the bare question "Do they" really means nothing without the qualification of what is it at present. That aspect will be carefully ignored by the Union who are doing quite nicely thank you.
God bless the nurses tho.
