1449227 2018-05-04 13:39:00 Can you explain in more detail your first sentence please. The one that starts "I use Gmail web based" please. PJ

Hmm, well you go to the gmail web page mail.google.com and log in to your Gmail if you have an account.
then you click the cog icon on the top right hand side and choose settings.
On the next screen you choose the 4th tab along the top "Accounts and Import"
On that page are options to check or send E-mail from other accounts and the option to add them. I added my xtra E-mail to that page and now when I check Gmail I get both in the same inbox.
I found the settings I needed here www.spark.co.nz

A lot of people prefer to use an E-mail client program, I prefer to use the Gmail web page because I can access it from anywhere on any device without any hassle (as long as I know my user name and password of course :))

One thing that may not be obvious from above, adding xtra to Gmail in this way will also make your xtra Email show up on your smartphone inbox if you use gmail on the phone as if it was the same account. Some may not like that and prefer to keep the mail separate.

1449228 2018-05-05 01:16:00 dugi, will that filter out the spam mails from Xtra? bk T (215)
1449229 2018-05-05 01:37:00 Gmails spam filter is good. If one does sneak through, click it, then click the icon up top, in webmail, and select mark as Spam. That tells it, and it won't allow those through in future. piroska (17583)

I'm not completely sure but I believe so. All I can tell you is I have a very generic Email address easily guessed and I get almost no spam at all.
I also occasionally use outlook on my home PC and it's set up for Gmail not xtra - but it still gets email from my xtra account and the same lack of spam.

1449231 2018-05-05 05:07:00 I'm not completely sure .

I am.
I have forwarded xtra email to it.
It doesn't care where and how, just whats in it.

1449232 2018-05-09 04:54:00 Many thanks for all the feedback, everyone. I am keen to continue to use Xtra and Gmail and eventually use them for differing purposes. GMail is great in handling spam, but I don't find it that user friendly.

Dugimodo - many thanks for your suggestions - I will have a go, looks very promising! :punk

User - I am aware that m_jackson is just a receiver. I did get excited about your suggestion about setting rules re prefixes on addresses, but my hopes were dashed when I checked. For instance my two recently received emails titled "blazing trader" both have different prefixes and then "Date Latin Lady" has a different one again, so that is clearly a non-starter.

1449233 2018-05-09 05:12:00 Just wondering, how does MS's 365 email spam filter compare ?

btw , the company now hosting xtra's email boasts of 99.999% spam email filtering :banana :banana
Maybee Spark pay them so little that they dont bother ??

Anyway, xtra's spam issues go way back to when yahoo was hacked. So many xtra email adresses are now on spammers email lists (incl mine)

1449234 2018-05-09 06:04:00 Hi 1101 - maybe the answer is to change email address, which is challenging! My latest one shows this "uij2alkaykf7lmqrpe@wixsite.com" which purports to giving a chance to own a new I-phone. Duh! :devil I am convinced  Misty (368)
1449235 2018-05-09 06:32:00 Hi Misty, I have exact same problem as you, and it has been going on for some time. I have reverted to forwarding spam to complaints@spam.govt.nz don't know if that is going to help but perhaps if you do that as well that may help the cause?
Misty do you think that the m_jackson email address belongs to the spammer? As I was tempted to email that address and ask what is going on? I think Micheal Jackson was a spamming thing going on some years ago after Micheal died?
You are right, hard to block as the source changes most ever time. The spam is not addressed to me but my email address starts with j and is @xtra.co.nz what about you?
Thanks

1449236 2018-05-09 22:08:00 Forwarding on spam to NZ authorities isnt going to achieve anything. The NZ govt has no control over spammers based in India, Pakistan, Russia etc.
And when one spammer gets shut down , another 2 spammers popup . Reporting them or adding them to a block list doesnt help long term.

The issue lies with xtra . They simply arnt blocking the spam (actually , their email hosting company isnt) .
Its a woefully pitifull spam blocker they have, they cant even detect when spam email labled as from xxx@xtra.co.nz didnt actually come from NZ .
