Didn't hear back last night so I got him to sudo apt the missing stuff. One by one.

No the laptop isn't a new install, but it's fairly recent, as in March this year.

He has added nothing, done no updates, except Sylvia, and that was done the day before he decided to do it to the desktop too.
We went there, we tried 3 versions of that scangear.

The 2.10 worked as I said, with those errors.
On the laptop the next newest works.
On mine the latest works.

OK, different O/Ss, different scanners, I can understand.

Same o/s, same scanner??? Crazy.

The Printer works fine Via wireless. The scanner though is a different story. Most, if the computer is connected to the LAN (Router) by a ethernet Cable OR by USB the scanner works perfectly, try connecting Via Wireless and the scanning function plays up (99%) of the time stops are cant be found.

1449177 2018-05-04 23:24:00 Don’t know if this will be of any help, but on a mates computer with a canon printer I had to install xsane, which in turn installed another couple of associated packages and we were away.

Can be found in Synaptic Packet Manager.

1449178 2018-05-05 01:04:00 What I see from that picture is a source directory and missing files that are only used for compiling. This does not look like the deb file is being used.

INSTALL is a text file to explain how to install it BUT... it is probably from the source code which means it had to be left in and distributed. It's normally not useful whatsoever unless a dev took the time to update it (unlikely) or you want to compile the source yourself.

That's why if you see a deb file, use it.

Nope. It picked up the printer via wifi.
On the other machine, it picked up both via wifi.

In the end he used an old driver for the scanner and it worked.

Fixed the missing stuff error now too.
The 2nd oldest driver worked on laptop, not desktop, who knows why, who cares now, he got it working, via wifi, with the old one.

So yay, I spent ages on phone with him, he panics a bit...and he got stuck on this wifi thing too. I didn't think so...
