2018-04-25 04:54:00 | Hi all Just putting a windows ISO onto a USB following the instructions given in THIS ( . pcmag . com/operating-systems-and-platforms/46896/feature/how-to-run-windows-10-from-a-usb-drive" target="_blank">au . pcmag . com) article . Perfect step by step instructions and all went well . . . until it wouldn't boot on the notebook I was trying to bring back to life . I eventually found out the problem was the notebook did not have the usual simple old BIOS system that I know and can still stuff up any computer with . . . rather, it has the flash new UEFI system which I know very little about, or to be more precise, nothing but 1 article I've read . Unfortunately, the WinToUSB software only allows MBR to BIOS on the free version, and if you need the UEFI and try selecting MBR to BIOS and UEFI, you have to upgrade to the paid version !! That will be $29 . 95 thank you sir, will that be cash or credit ?? If anyone has a little work around or can reccommend any other FREE software that will do the same as the paid version, I'd appreciate hearing from you . :) SP8's . . . We shall not forget

2018-04-25 05:08:00 | Try Rufus, it's worked well for me. https://rufus.akeo.ie/ I also like that it's portable and doesn't need to be installed.

2018-04-25 06:30:00 | What are you actually trying to do ?? (the article Linked in original Post) WintoUSB creates a Bootable OS from the USB drive, Meaning its the same as if you have the OS installed on a Hard drive and boot into a working OS, MS call it windows to Go. ( think of it like the Linux Live CD) If you wanted to put the ISO onto a USB drive and use the USB to install or repair, its totally different.

2018-04-25 23:35:00 | Hi Wainui . . . I understand what you're saying, I'm not trying to repair or install . Done that a couple of times and think I still remember the process . . . THINK being the operative word . I'm really just playing around with that new, now old, Ollee Snowbook . Just thought I may have been able to run it off a USB drive and use an SD card as storage . Unlike you . . . and I really didn't want to admit this in a public forum . . . I wasn't born with a supercomputer in my mouth  I learn the old fashoned way . . . by making showers of gold motherboard dust, smelling the burning insulation, blowing fuses . . . shocking really . . . especially when you get playing with those big caps in the PSU's before discharging them with something other than fingers . :clap:clap:clap

2018-04-26 00:07:00 | Well Rufus will put ISOs onto bootable Flash drives, but I have no Idea if it'll help with what you are trying. | dugimodo (138) | |

The went into computers and haven't stopped learning since :) I'm closer to retiring than a fresh start ;) I thought UEFI standed for Unerversal Electronic Feul Injection . . . can't remember who had the "If it's got tits, transom or ?? . . . it's trouble" footer, but always had a laugh about some of his comments . Computers to me are a mixture of fasination, bewilderment, confusion, frustration . . . pride is also in there somewhere as well . . . start getting a bit PO when a 12 yr old can give you the answers (little smart a$$ . . . . $$'s) . . . it's one of those "women" situations . . . "F . . . . d if you do, F . . . . d if you don't" . . . ;-) Although I've tried to keep up, technology has left me behind I'm afraid . . . but I STILL love the smell of burning rubber . . . unfortunately the SA's of today wouldn't know that "Electrical" wires were once insulated with rubber . . . Rant over . . . :clap:clap:clap |
