| 1448813 | 2018-04-24 02:22:00 | My Compaq laptop has Win 10 (64bit) Fall Creators update. My mobile phone is an old Samsung Galaxy S2 has a 10gb monthly data plan. I do not get near that usage each month.. These days I often cannot connect to Internet using the USB Tethering option. It says Wi-Fi turned off but I go to Settings and turn Wi-Fi on but then still get Wi-Fi off and try "connect manually'. Sometimes (like now) it behaves (as it did for many years) with instant Internet Connection. Then (a recent issue) I'll suddenly see the yellow highlight and "no Internet connection" but I have not touched the phone nor the cable. I do not have this problem if instead of the USB Tethering option I turn on the Wi-Fi button on the laptop and select Mobile Hot Spot on the phone. I then select the name of my phone's mobile hotspot and get instant connection and do not lose the connectivity. The Phone cable seems Ok. My Settings show: IPv4 192.168.42.224 IPv4 DNS servers 192.168.42.129 Manufacturer SAMSUNG Mobile USB Remote NDIS Network Device Driver version 2.12.5.0 Physical address (MAC) 02-63-31-30.68-04 As a peculiarity while I type this message I am on USB tethering at the moment and have not lost connectivity Any ideas please? If you're on mobile hot spot you are Wifi to your phone and then out via cellular network which must be slower than cable from laptop to phone then cellular? If you are USB connection then you don't need Wifi its like a network connection, maybe I'm reading it wrong at this late hour. And you are on USB and connected... |
