876115 2010-04-13 08:38:00 I have just bought a Dell notebook which had xp installed, but a CD of W7 premium was included so I installed that (clean install).
The Cd includes Windows Defender.

What is the difference between M Defender & M Security essentials?
I've had a good run with Security Essentials. Should I remove Defender & use Security essentials?

876116 2010-04-13 08:40:00 MS Defender is part of the OS, you can disable it. GameJunkie (72)
876117 2010-04-13 08:43:00 MSE is a later version of WD I think. And it also uses the same engine. But if you're going to install MSE, uninstall / disable WD (MSE disables it anyway, I think) Speedy Gonzales (78)
876118 2010-04-13 08:44:00 MS Defender defends nothing and MSSE normally disables it anyway. MSSE is the best of the free AV s out there.

876119 2010-04-13 08:53:00 hmm might try it instead of Avast. Is there a 64 bit install? nedkelly (9059)
876120 2010-04-13 08:58:00 There's a 32 and 64 bit version of MSE (64 bit for Vista and Win7 x64), and 32 bit for win7 / Vista 32 bit and XP Speedy Gonzales (78)
