2010-04-13 05:01:00 i just want to know which is better and what the difference is. my mates all picked 32 bit, so did i but i was thinking of going 64 with my next computer. is there compatibility issues with some software? also would old games like warcraft3, starcraft1 command and conquer and counter strike work on 64 bit? nerd (109)
2010-04-13 05:05:00 Some games may have patches so they run natively in 64 bit. Only way to find out if it works, is check whatever site. To see if it'll work in 64 bit. As said before, the only thing you have to watch out for are drivers. No 64 bit drivers, no go. Depends what youre going to use it for. If the mobo and CPU support 64 bit, and you want to use more than 4 GB, then you have no choice, BUT to use 64 bit. Or you wont be able to use all of the ram

Even tho most programs (should) work in 64 bit, it doesnt mean mean it'll be twice as fast (because it's running in a 64 bit OS. Unless the program is 64 bit as well)

2010-04-13 05:07:00 32 bit is restricted to using about 3.25gb of ram. Still have some driver problems with 64bit.

2010-04-13 05:13:00 if i have the 7 ultimate cd on me, can i change it later when it becomes more supported? nerd (109)
2010-04-13 05:15:00 Change what? To 64 bit you mean. ? Yup I suppose so. But you would have to buy (if you mean swap 32 bit for 64 bit later - I doubt it), the 64 bit version of Win7 (thats if you've got the 32 bit version now) Speedy Gonzales (78)
2010-04-13 05:23:00 i have the 64 bit version with me, but i think it will let me install 32 bit as well right? nerd (109)
2010-04-13 05:29:00 Pass. Some sites say the retail versions have 32 and 64 bit disks. Have you got 1 or 2 cd's? Speedy Gonzales (78)
2010-04-13 05:38:00 think its a 2 disk, i ordered it, dont have it physically yet. if it isnt it wont be too bad. there are probably emulators for just xp or something that would work nerd (109)
2010-04-13 05:41:00 Well you can use XP mode. Once you download a 480 mb file then install it Speedy Gonzales (78)
2010-04-13 06:42:00 Retail has two discs, a 32 bit installer and a 64 bit installer. 64 bit does not mean twice as fast, that is never a real world outcome. It does provide performance benefits, and lets you use all the RAM you're likely to have, so it's worth using. If you can use it, use it. If you have major problems with applications etc. then just install 32 bit. jackM (14814)
