875779 2010-04-12 10:42:00 Last week I was moving stuff around downstairs and I found a hard drive with no label on it, so I plugged it into my external case vista said installing drivers and then nothing showed in Computer so I went to Disk Management it said Disk needed initialising so click initialise then it said drive not ready so tried again and again then tried it in ubuntu, and everything I try says operation failed.
Any ideas?

875783 2010-04-12 11:30:00 May be it is a dead drive? Have you tried it slaved and see if the BIOS detects it? Jen (38)
875784 2010-04-12 11:35:00 ok will do in the morning and post results nedkelly (9059)
875785 2010-04-12 11:36:00 No, I have been using it in my external case. The computers detect it and say that it is there but will not let me see if or format it or do anything to it. nedkelly (9059)
875786 2010-04-12 11:51:00 If not detected in the BIOS when jumpered correctly Windows ( any version ) will not see the drive. Sweep (90)

That just not make sense in my view?

The drive is there and the computer(s) several detect it ( the drive ) but can you not read the drive?

I'm so confused.

So when you were using the drive what format NTFS, Linux Swap, Fat32 how was this drive partitioned?

875788 2010-04-12 12:03:00 yeah sorry. The drive does not show in Computer. only in Disk Management on Vista. On ubuntu the drive shows in Disk Utility but not on the desktop. And on both the disk says it is an unknown format and will not let me format it or anything. Is there some way that the drive could be locked down and needs a code sent on boot up? nedkelly (9059)
