Or if you want something free, install linux. Otherwise you'll have to upgrade everything as well (ram, CPU and mobo) | Speedy Gonzales (78) | ||

2010-04-12 03:20:00 | For that CPU and ram, yup. I'm running Win7 x64 on a 1.5 AMD CPU lol with 1.3 GB. Its not too bad (and not that slow either). Altho, some things in Vista arent in Windows 7 (moviemaker, dvd maker, and windows mail / an email client). You'll have to install alternate programs. Altho, there's nothing wrong with XP either | Speedy Gonzales (78) | |
2010-04-12 03:27:00 | Sounds like Windows 7 is better than Vista. Would Windows 7 run on my current hardware in the first post of this thread?

2010-04-12 03:33:00 | Well if I can run it on a 1.3 which is slower than yours and run it, with less ram than yours. It probably will. I would go into a shop and test it first (look for a desktop or laptop with it on). And see what you think of it | Speedy Gonzales (78) | |
2010-04-12 04:07:00 | Why do you want to upgrade? hmm it sounds slightly weak for W7. I have run W7 on a 1.5ghz laptop - but it was a clean install with no programs, used for about half a day as a test. Ive used XP on a 555mhz VIA 4watt cpu aswell, it doesnt mean that firefox and youtube will work very well. If you are bored, go ahead. If you like things being stable how they are id leave it alone and get W7 with the next PC you buy. What about drivers? Theres no guarantee old hardware will work. Also you get to pay a nice hefty sum buying Windows in the store. A typical netbook comprises of less than $40 of windows OS tax.

2010-04-12 04:14:00 | I didnt install anything on the other PC here. Win7 installed the audio and NIC drivers. They're good enough. It has sound, and its on the net. There are no drivers AT ALL for it on the ASUS site (for win7 x64). The only thing I installed were the ATI video drivers. And printer drivers. So I can print from it to the printer next to me

2010-04-12 06:46:00 | Well. I think you should try to upgrade your hard drive to something that has more storage you could make go up to 160GB. Then I reccomend Windows7. I heard alot of good feedback from Win7! | AZ1 (15478) | |
