874847 2010-04-10 08:23:00 I have a Brother HL2040 and a Canon Pixma colour inkjet which both connect to one pc at present. However this isn't convenient for various reasons so I'm wondering if it's possible to buy a network adapter? The printers could then be connected to the wireless modem/switch and available to my laptop.

Any suggestions? :D

874849 2010-04-10 14:13:00 You can easily share the printers connected to the pc and use them from the laptop. The only thing is that the pc has to be turned on in order for you to print from the laptop. ronyville (10611)

Ah - yes, I could do that but at the moment the desktop pc is out of action until I can get it to Pctek. :D

We can buy network-ready printers which presumably have software and hardware for an ethernet cable. In fact there is one at work. I just wondered if there was a simple way to connect a non-network printer to a hub/switch.

874851 2010-04-10 21:27:00 Just as long as the printer is connected to a USB port, (and the PC its connected to is on),you can print to it. Otherwise, you'll have to connect a print server to the computer its on (if you want to print to it, if the PC is off). Just remember to share it on the computer its connected to

A hub/switch helps, but you dont an adapter for the printer, (to connect to the hub), so you can print to it

You can even print to a printer, even if it isnt wireless. All you have to do, is configure the wireless, add the printer (the same way as if it were connected by ethernet (from the computer you want to print from). Then print to it

Good thinking, I'll check. :D
