791344 2009-07-13 10:47:00 Been trying to send some emails to parliamentarians tonight but keep getting a server reset error when I try to send ( using the official NZGovt web contact page)...trying not to be a conspiracy theorist here !!!

Heres what I've been trying to say..to the Food safety Minister and John Key...

from the NZFSA web page,it seems the Ministers job is...

"managing the joint food standards treaty with Australia and ensuring the interests of New Zealand consumers are protected"
I find forcing bakers to add a food additive ( folic acid ) to my bread is not ensuring that my "interests" are protected.

Years ago asbestos was considered safe, today we have a contrary view.

As a male approaching an age when prostate cancer is a worry, and having no national screening framework in place, I find that being forced to eat a substance that will do me no good what so ever yet may speed cancer growth ( and you cannot 100% guarantee me that this will never happen ) I can do nothing except thank you for removing bread from my diet.

Perhaps I can eat cake ?

Shame Mr Key won't see it.

791345 2009-07-13 11:04:00 The box of cornflakes in the pantry has got folic acid in it, and what am I going to have for breakfast tomorrow? Cornflakes :D.

I don't agree with them forcing the bakers to put it in bread, but I will still eat bread if they do :).

About emailing the government: I tried to email the National party about a year ago telling them if they wanted to help stop the recession, they should help pay peoples mortgages for a few months if they get into trouble, but thus far I have not received a reply :(.

791346 2009-07-13 11:11:00 I emailed both the Labour & National crowds regarding that *** stupid give way to the right rule. It took a couple of months, but I did get a reply. Both committed themselves to doing nothing without being forced
I emailed Winstons lot about something, can't remember what. They asked me to consider joining them :yuck:

I think there needs to be some emphasis on fining idiots who signal right when going straight through a roundabout.

Not quite sure about the whole folic acid thing. I take a daily dose of 5mg folic acid as it somehow helps preventing mouth ulcers that I would otherwise get more regularly.

791348 2009-07-13 11:25:00 I always thought folic acid was supposed to be good for you. They put it in cereals & vitamin pills + they brag about it too. Maybe there's a limit on how much you can have before it's harmful. Phil B (648)
791349 2009-07-13 11:45:00 Practically everything has a threshold point at which it becomes harmful for you. For example vitamin A that livers contain plenty of. Too much of it can lead to vitamin A poisoning that can cause death. Happened to a couple of Atlantic explorers who got lost and had to resort to eating their husky sled dogs. Both ate too much of the husky livers and one died of the poisoning. qazwsxokmijn (102)
791350 2009-07-13 11:53:00 I'll remember that. But just how much folic acid is too much? Does anyone know ?? With it being in bread as well as the other food we eat, will it be too much. Am I at a greater risk of cancer. No-one seems to be able to answer with authority Phil B (648)
791351 2009-07-13 12:05:00 How do they make it? Squeeze hair? Are bald people more in need of this stuff? R2x1 (4628)
791352 2009-07-13 19:51:00 I read somewhere last week that for a woman to get enough from eating bread she would need to eat a minimum of 11 slices a day, found the article read here (www.stuff.co.nz) gary67 (56)
791353 2009-07-13 20:24:00 They say the science is good, does that justify Nanny state telling us we will eat it like it or not.?
The state of has to pay for the spina difida case of course, which arise out of not taking said chemical.

Once again it is a case of the individual not having to take responsibility ,they can take the supplement themselves and leave us out of it.
