| 791161 | 2009-07-13 00:39:00 | I've had no end of trouble with TelstraClear's transparent proxy servers doing silly things. This morning, I am ripping my hair out because of its stupidity. My understanding of proxy servers is that if you force a refresh (i.e. Ctrl+F5) it should fetch the latest page from the actual server, or at least check for it. TelstraClear's proxy seems to be ignoring this. I recently helped a friend move a website across to a new server. The DNS changes have propagated (i.e if I ping his URL, then I get the IP address of the correct server). However, I can't for the life of me actually browse to the URL and get the correct server - no matter what I do. I've deleted my browsing history, tried several browsers, and flushed my DNS resolver cache. Ctrl+F5 should force the proxy to check the site again, but it isn't doing so. Note: It's not a DNS problem. The settings have propagated, but TelstraClear's proxy server, which presumably uses their DNS servers (which I'm using) too, are still serving up old pages. What can I do? Has anyone managed to opt-out of using their proxy server(s)? How do I force a refresh and actually make the proxy server understand that it's what I want to do? |

At the packet level, F5 and Ctrl+F5 are essentially the same. I doubt that TC has any interest in removing their proxies; this allows them to cut down on external bandwidth used, saving them money. |
