"scuse me, Gov - but isn't that what the US Gummermint does? I mean printing money and smashing coins out of a little copper or silver sandwiched onto the aluminum core of coins? There are an estimated $160 BILLION (that's with a "B") US dollars that the State has paid out to it's employees and welfare recipients, etc . , in the form of "Eye-Oh-Youse" . Here's the rub: The California chartered, Federally-insured banks said that as of 12 o'clock noon, Friday, July 10th, 2009, they will no longer accept Cali-Script for transactions - as it goes against their basic banking instincts to accept Monopoly money from any source, gummermint or private . AND - come a few months from now the banks will have to pay 4 . 375% INTEREST to those who have saved the Cali-Script for good times - which for some appear to be nowhere on the near- or far horizon at the mo . The "State" has not said where the banks are to obtain the funds to pay out this interest - as of yet . I hear 'new taxes' in the singing leaves of the trees . Add to this that California is not attempting - not even in the slightest - to solve it's insolvency by having a new coin-of-da-realm in circulation . After all - if there are two forms of coinage, what does it matter then if the state debt gets solved or not? Now, don't get me wrong here - I like a good political potboiler - but this attempt at auriferous and quaestuary dissemination is wrought with fearsome repercussions and horrible promise . Perhaps California seceded from the Union last night and I missed it in the morning papers . Yeah! That would explain it all! I only live here as an accident of birth and parental housing whilst I was a tender young'un .
