790175 2009-07-09 03:58:00 (1) Zero Gravity
When NASA started sending up astronauts, they quickly discovered that ball-point pens would not work in zero gravity .

To combat this problem, NASA scientists spent a decade and $12 billion developing a pen that writes in zero gravity, upside-down, on almost any surface including glass and at temperatures ranging from below freezing to over 300 C .

The Russians used a pencil . Your taxes are due again---enjoy paying them .

(2)The US Constitution
'They keep talking about drafting a Constitution for Iraq .

Why don't we just give them the US one?

It was written by a lot of really smart guys, it's worked for over 200 years and the government isn't using it anymore . '

(3) Ten Commandments
The real reason that we can't have the Ten Commandments in a Courthouse is that you cannot post, 'Thou Shalt Not Steal,' 'Thou Shalt Not Commit Adultery' and 'Thou Shall Not Lie' in a building full of lawyers, judges and politicians!

It creates a hostile work environment .

790178 2009-07-09 10:11:00 Well obviously it is an old one, that figure would not even get you a pencil for today's space notables.

If NZQA had specified and overseen it, the pen would only write on glass in 10 G's and underwater at 300 deg C. Difficult conditions to achieve in orbit.

790179 2009-07-10 00:24:00 Yeah but pencils can be rubbed out to cover mistakes, same thing happened in Fonterra recently, oh and the fact that sharpening pencils leaves little bits behind which may get into the food... Gobe1 (6290)
790180 2009-07-10 00:36:00 Well, if you get bits of the "lead" in your food, can you apply for carbon credits? R2x1 (4628)
790181 2009-07-10 02:47:00 johcar - So true!

R2x1 - NZQA: only the NZ Min of Ed could create something so flawed. Oh wait ... ;)

The US Constitution is a laudable document. I mean it, seriously. The Westminster Parliamentary system is also laudable.

The problem is that many Americans think it is so perfect, and their form of government is so perfect, that other countries should have the same. Worse still is when people in power attempt to force the American style of government on other countries. I doubt if SJ is like this, after all his post is meant to be funny and entertaining, so I am not trying to slam SJ. However, the topics do raise questions (clever humour has a way of doing this).

IMO one big flaw in the US Constitution is the Electoral College. Another problem is "the right of the people to keep and bear arms". Then there are such topics as: Term limits for Congress, Lobbyists, and may I say "No intelligence exam for would-be presidents and state governors :D, and "No prison sentences for those who ignore Separation of Church and State :D.

BTW, is it not true that American advisers helped (instructed?) in creating the Iraq constitution?
