789896 2009-07-08 03:14:00 As the good old US of A has no Royal family to idolise, the next best thing in their culture is a Black/White Song and Dance Child Molester .

The media of course are lapping this up as they are being provided with a cost free source of entertainment/news .

This morning, I counted 8 TV channels on SkyTV that were giving this "event" live coverage .

What a farce!

If you think the news media is all about getting the facts to people, you are in for a shocker .

TV news is, as is all news and news related media, a profit generating business . Everyone knew Jacko, either as the great musician or as the kiddie fondler (the truth of which only he, the kids involved, and god will ever truly know), it doesn't matter . What matters is that Jacko will get butts in the seat infront of the tele .
Millions if not billions are to be easily made of the advertising revenue .

If his family had any dignity (and this is my opinion) everything would be done privately, without the media circus . But I am sure Joe Jackson will get a nice handsome cut out of all this .

(This can't apply to for instance Dianna, she signed that right away when became royalty . )

789898 2009-07-08 04:08:00 I do wonder if they misjudged this one though. A staggering crowd of.................1000 people turned up outside the service. So much for the 250,000 predicted. ;) Winston001 (3612)

That must be a 'misjudgement'. I havent seen any of the news items on telly and have been wondering today what happened about the traffic holdups etc - thats interesting - I wonder what it says.

The news media are not there to hand out the facts anymore, they are there for the dollars, I wonder how much they charged for advertising through the program per minute :stare:

Indeed, Poms will remember the Whitehall Theatre farces with Brian Rix and Elspet Gray.........spot the difference :)

It is easy to tell how in recent years the news media has become the pits, years ago news and current affairs on radio and TV were called "programmes", and had some status................now they are called "shows".

A show is/was something seen at the end of the pier :D

A 'random' Google of NZ sites "current affairs show", produced a flood of shows:
brianedwardsmedia.co.nz Even Brian Edwards has succumbed and doesn't know the difference.

About who? PJ

789903 2009-07-08 09:32:00 He is being called the greatest entertainer ever.

I dispute that. Maybe he was in America, the origin of the Laughter Track.

I nominate Charlie Chaplin. Or George Formby. PJ

789904 2009-07-08 10:08:00 Sick to death about tv 1 and 3 news giving all this publicity to a child molester prefect (6291)
789905 2009-07-08 16:45:00 In my opinion Michael was an idiot-savant of sorts, who was mentally and physically beaten as a child and retreated into man/child-edness as a refuge from his father.

His music was without doubt good and well-refined and outside of the then-current box. His videos were (somewhat questionable, taste-wise for me), nonetheless innovative and alluring in their aspect and view of life dark and brooding.

His child-paedo-whatever, was (maybe) a dirtying of him by the RIAA moguls and their henchmen to destroy someone who wouldn't play the music game with residuals and fees the way they wanted - much like Clinton with his bimbo blow-outs and yellow dress stains when he wanted to give Palestine it's own country/state.

The freeway traffic (although it didn't impact me here in Hemet), really tore up the commute at the height of go-to-work time for the "To/From LA 8AM commuters", and the expenses are right this moment being debated as billable to the insurance company (AIG?) for all the CHiPs and the city cops and fire departments and Cal-Trans and the like. They are saying (they ALWAYS say something) that about 4.3 MILLION USDs were spent on overtime, security and general fees for the public departments alone.

News coverage was 24/7 - still IS as a matter of fact a day after the grand event.

The hoopla at the Center with all the black speakers trying to make something much more grand out of a funeral-turned-media circus was laughable.

The family at least had a rather subdued and somber few moments at Forest Lawn in the mausoleum with the body before it was whisked away for a dog-and-pony show at Staples' Center, miles away in LA, downtown.

The crowds were all subdued and kindly to a point.

Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, the ANC preachers and C.O.R.E and their ilk were all there, flying on the coattail of The Michael for their own aggrandizement. Everybody was pimping Jocko's new found popularity.

Sad and tragic as his death may have been, he's gonna make more $$ now than ever before.

IMHO: Joe Jackson was/is a sleazeball and a provocateur, playing on current revisionist histories of The Family Jackson, if not downright rewriting them hisself.

LaToya (I think) wrote the first tragi/serio/comedy exposè on the family; let's see if a new one pops up. She was forced to print retractions and apologies after it originally hit the shelves, but now maybe she can go on book signing Tour Redux.
