791032 2009-08-09 21:36:00 Thanks guys. It was sudden but not totally unexpected. He's either 100 or 90 or somewhere in between. No-one knows for sure as he "prevaricated" about his age to join the Navy.

He also played two games of tennis up until about a year ago; every day and he played single against doubles. He had a serve that no-one could return.

He was scouted by the NY Yankees to play ball and when his dad wouldn't let him go, he joined the Navy.
He worked on the X-15 and later on with the SR-71 sub assemblies as a first-item inspector
He had both knees replaced.
He had a quad-bypass heart surgery
He fought prostate cancer and won
He had a black belt in Tae Kwon Do
He had a black belt in Judo or Judako, I don't know which.
He had a black belt in Karate
He had a brown belt in ballroom dancing
He had been shot twice: once in Korea while he was on deck of his submarine, rescuing survivors and once was shot in the Battle Of The Coral Sea on his submarine when he was rescuing more survivors of the ship they just torpedoed.
He hated fishing

He had a stroke and when that dropped him, we found out he had cancer of the liver and of his right lung (asbestos), severe arthritis and diabetes. He also was found to have a bad heart and all this and he never complained and never took any pain cures or pills.

Today I are an orphan.
