2010-04-13 08:57:00 | Oops forgot to add that I use Microsoft's security essentials. Im pretty sure some delightful person in this family has had a fiddle with the laptop as they say they were asked to activate it although I thought I had already done that ! God only knows what they did then as I have the original disks in their box and put away. Apologies for not being more helpful but I wasn't around when it died. It was only under promise of torture that I found out they had been on it at all.:mad: | ollieogg (6593) | |

The following shouldn't do any more harm as its already broken- this should rewrite the boot. You have to be able to boot into the command prompt from the Repair cd, type in the following: bootrec.exe/fixmbr <Press Enter> bootrec.exe/fixboot <press Enter> type in Exit, and reboot. Is the data backed up on the Laptop ? Sometimes its better to completely reinstall, esp if you dont have the software / resources. (most Techs should have access to various methods) If I had the laptop in the workshop there are different options, as I have several different "repair CD's" that would allow to go deeper / More technical to see what the hells going on. It was only under promise of torture that I found out they had been on it at all. Yeah -- the famous " Mr Nobody touched anything" paid a visit again  |

2010-04-14 04:02:00 | Ok I did that and it said it had done both successfully. When I rebooted I was back to the black screen with a blinking dash. Plan Z? | ollieogg (6593) | |
2010-04-14 04:35:00 | OK I have tried yet again, now when the recovery disk has finished loading windows another window pops up called System Recovery options and it says "Windows found problems with your computers startup options. Do you want to apply repairs and restart your computer? Choices = Repair and restart or no. I chose Repair and Restart and now I am on an eternal loop as the the computer is set to boot from CD and of course the repair disk is in there.. and so on and on it goes. I will get it to reboot from the windows drive and see what happens next | ollieogg (6593) | |
2010-04-14 04:42:00 | GRRR... changed the boot back to boot from C but still no joy just the same %$%$ blank screen. The results of the repair said everything it sweet and dandy and that it is booting. How the hell can it be? | ollieogg (6593) | |
2010-04-14 04:55:00 | Is this the RTM / final version of Win7?? Because it looks like this loop appears in the RC version. And its a bug in the RC version | Speedy Gonzales (78) | |
