875328 2010-04-12 02:49:00 I thought it was recommended to get an ISP that is in the same city for lower ping rates and greater speeds? nedkelly (9059)
875329 2010-04-12 02:52:00 Whoever said that was wrong then. If that were the case, my speeds would be fast all the time. It's not Speedy Gonzales (78)
875330 2010-04-12 03:31:00 hmm wonder who it was. So is that Telecom plan alright, and are Telecom reliable? nedkelly (9059)
875331 2010-04-12 04:49:00 Because most people think there is no other ISP in NZ than Telecom's Xtra most people use them. When it comes to peak periods your internet connection comes to a crawl. You are best to go to a smaller ISP where at peak periods your connection won't slow so much. In saying that just about everyone in NZ use's the Telecom network.

875332 2010-04-12 05:02:00 yeah but do small ISPs give ADSL2? And if so which one would be best. How about ICONZ? nedkelly (9059)
875333 2010-04-12 05:24:00 Any reason you want a AKL ISP? Well arn't most in AKL? :D

All ISPs does ADSL2 provided whoever does the phonelines these days have upgraded yours. We're still waiting for ours.

If you go on a FS/FS plan, it is ADSL2+ if your line supports it.

875334 2010-04-12 05:31:00 Xnet does not sell wholesale ADSL2 to get it you have to go on Fusion. They are currently doing mine now I think. My mate went past today and saw Chorus doing stuff in the cabinet. nedkelly (9059)
875335 2010-04-12 05:38:00 Ok that's Xnet then :D

What's the issue in putting your tolls to the ISP, they might be better rates than the Telecom rates .... You don't need to spend a min on toll dialling .....
Then you get a lot more ISPs to choose from.

875336 2010-04-12 05:55:00 Parents are happy with Telecom for the phone line. nedkelly (9059)
875337 2010-04-12 06:00:00 Yes I'm with Actrix and their toll rates and calls to mobiles are much lower than Telecoms.

But I do think many ISP's are a bit naughty when they advertise prices for the connection that include a $10 discount if you go with them for tolls. They should really advertise the full price, and then offer you the $10 discount.
