790566 2009-07-10 09:36:00 What are the good things you like about Vista?

Basically... none. Except it came free with my notebook. It's been a bloody pain to get used to.

Nevermind... I've endured much of the learning process so far (largely thanks to PF1 helpers) and I'll stick with it instead of going back to my solid XP (for now).

790567 2009-07-10 09:40:00 The only thing I've disabled is Defender and indexingHow do you do that? And why?

I've installed Comodo Firewall suite, so dunno if I should disable Defender. But yeah, how to disable it?

790568 2009-07-10 09:50:00 Control panel / windows defender / tools / options. Scroll down the bottom, untick use windows defender under admin options. Then save. Why? Its hopeless. I installed Avast instead. I would still install Avast or other, if you didnt install the AV part of Comodo (which I wouldnt use). Its not that great. I killed Windows search (the service) not indexing. Speedy Gonzales (78)
790569 2009-07-10 21:23:00 Too true. It is the electricity that causes the trouble. Take away that electrickery stuff and Vista behaves very well indeed. :clap

It must perform better on battery power then. :p

790570 2009-07-10 21:51:00 Well, if it is not an electrical battery it should be safe ;) R2x1 (4628)
790571 2009-07-10 21:53:00 It's a chemical battery which gives out electricity. :stare: pcuser42 (130)

Best keep it away from Vista then, water and/or Vista can give shocking results when combined with electricity. In the case of the water it may get you hopping, but quite the reverse with Vista. (Unless hopping mad counts) ;)

790574 2009-07-11 01:52:00 Over the years I have used computers with all consumer versions of Windows since 3.1. Last year I bought a new computer with Vista Home Premium installed and was instantly convinced that the professional moaners were just that.
My computer is on 24/7 (with the monitor switched off when not required) and have found Vista stable and a big advance on XP. It has crashed only twice in a year and both times it was my own stupidity which was the cause.
My impression is that the moaners are either Mac owners or Linus geeks who don't know a good operating system when they find one, and try to run badly written programs which would crash any system.
