I got the cheaper academic $180 version of Windows 7 Ultimate and you have to make a choice at purchase between 32 and 64. However at that price you can still buy both cheaper than the retail version which has both disks included.

With both disks you can reinstall either version any time you want of course.

I went for 32 but now wish I'd gone for 64.

876092 2010-04-13 20:53:00 Assuming your hardware supports 64-bit (including having drivers available), I don't see a reason not to go with it. inphinity (7274)
876093 2010-04-13 21:37:00 64 bit sounds pretty promising then. whats that 480 mb file speedy was talking about? nerd (109)

876095 2010-04-14 13:12:00 From various websites I've read, they recommend going 64-bit for Windows 7 if you have at least 4GB of RAM in your system and all of your PC hardware, including peripherals like the printer, is recent. 64-bit Windows 7 is more responsive if you have a lot of apps running at once.

All retail packs of Windows 7 include both 32-bit and 64-bit install disks.

876097 2010-04-14 21:43:00 I bought OEM and it only came with the 64 bit disc. I have had no problems with 64bit everything I have works gary67 (56)
876098 2010-04-15 10:32:00 When I installed 7 it have me the option for the x86 or x64 bit architecture, not having a 64 bit computer I just went in with the 32. judging from that i'd say I could have installed the 64 bit version but i'm not completely sure. maybe both the 32 and 64 are included in the Ultimate disk? 876099 2010-04-15 10:34:00 If your system is 32 bit, (and doesnt support 64 bit), 64 bit wont install. You can check by pressing the windows key (if there's one on the keyboard + pause). It'll say 32 or 64 bit Speedy Gonzales (78)
