2010-04-13 03:22:00 | Acer Aspire 5100. Er. yes well. Known for being pigs of things. But, what was the original problem, software or hardware? If software, what symptoms? Malware? You need to start with that, messing about blindly can make the situation worse.

2010-04-13 03:23:00 | It says it has done a system restore dated from a few days ago. It then says I need to restart, I restart, get in to bios and put boot from C drive, restart. I get the Acer welcome screen then just a blinking cursor :( no windows. | ollieogg (6593) | |

2010-04-13 04:14:00 | Through system restore I can get a command prompt if that is any help? anyone? | ollieogg (6593) | |
2010-04-13 04:38:00 | Did you tell it to run system Restore once it booted from the repair CD. This will give the option to wind the system back to when it was going OK and created a restore point. If the latest restore didn't work then try one earlier. When you boot from the Repair CD, as long as it detects the existing OS ( top option will have a dot) - click next, on the following windows, select system restore - it will show any restore points - if the OS doesn't show in the option then its a little more serious. If you have any infections they may go back for the ride when running restore.

2010-04-13 04:48:00 | if you can boot and select safemode with command prompt you can type in rstrui.exe and then press ENTER. Same thing as booting from the repair CD.

2010-04-13 05:00:00 | I got it to do a system restore and it says it has done it. This is all done whilst booting from the CD Drive. I close down then restart and get into the BIOS and change my start up to start with my HD again. Restart and Im right back where I started from. Just a blank black screen. It just plain refuses to start windows normally. Have tried once more booting from my CD drive and now it won't even do that. | ollieogg (6593) | |
2010-04-13 07:24:00 | When the laptop first starts, do you get writing flash on the screen, or no writing what so ever - look down the bottom, it may say Boot Menu (or words to that effect) F???? Some laptops its F12. ( it will only flash for a second or two) Edited: by any chance does this have Norton / Symantec AV or internet security installed ?
