875789 2010-04-12 12:39:00 yeah sorry. The drive does not show in Computer. only in Disk Management on Vista. On ubuntu the drive shows in Disk Utility but not on the desktop. And on both the disk says it is an unknown format and will not let me format it or anything. Is there some way that the drive could be locked down and needs a code sent on boot up?

The question is how was the drive formatted and you now come up with unkown format. There is not a code as such and it would be really terrific if people can answer questions as best they know.

I'm fully aware that some have difficulties in answering questions.

And some people make mistakes with dual boot and use Linux and get into Win partitions and slightly stuff same.

It has to be said that there will be a way out for you but at the moment I'm not certain as to how the issue can be fixed without further info.

Over to you. In my view very much like all the questions I asked you about where aerials were pointing in another thread and did not really get an answer as to whether you had gone outside and looked.

I now apologise in advance if I have offended you but surely you could attempt to answer the best of your ability.

875790 2010-04-12 21:40:00 Yeah no offence taken. Ok tried seatools and all the tests said unavailable. But I think it is actually dead now. There are some really bad sounds coming from it, so I get another paper weight. Oh and sweep I did say I went out side for the aerial thread.

I had a look around my neighborhood from my deck and can only see one UHF aerial and it is pointing towards Great Barrier's direction

875791 2010-04-12 22:32:00 Try downloading Microsoft Fix it. That problem had happen to me once and Fix it fixed it.

875796 2010-04-14 00:03:00 Always connect drives to the internal port in the computer if you want to be sure of the condition.

USB can be strange and doesn't transfer SMART status either, as well as not supporting other things.
