Adding a bit extra to bread (or flour) as done elsewhere is an effective means of raising the intake of those who need it. A valid comparison is with the addition of iodine to salt as a prevention for thyroid disease. Some people get carried away by the rantings of such as the Kedgley woman about mass medication etc. It has been happening for years. | Richard (739)

People in my circumstances have been shown to have a very much lower chance of developing this particular cancer if they take a folic acid supplement. So I take it happily. If it goes into bread maybe I won't have to take the supplement... | slofox (5767)

| 791359 | 2009-07-14 00:46:00 | I read somewhere last week that for a woman to get enough from eating bread she would need to eat a minimum of 11 slices a day, found the article read here (www.stuff.co.nz) SWMBO has declared that I will have to bake an extra loaf. Reckons she never gets enough. :thanks |

However we eat all sorts of food, and some people consume a whole chemical cocktail of chemicals in their food. We don't know what the combined effect these chemicals have. I have no doubt they cause cancer, becuase cancer rates have only risen since our food has become more and more processed. There is definately scientific evidence proving that particular food is the cuase of some cancers. This is more about choice, and big brother thinking they know best. There is no advantage to anyone by adding folic acid to bread, as someone who is pregnant wouldn't be eating enough bread for it to be effective. Folic acid should be taken in a pill form for those who need it, not given to everyone, as 99.9% of people don't need it in the bread. Many people also don't know that the cheaper bread sold contains Soy flour, which is very likely to be genetically modified, and could possibily be causing harm to. I will be making my own bread in my bread maker plus I will probably save money and get nicer frsher bread. I knew I got it for a reason. |

Besides, you can get your folic acid from eating leafy vegetables - we don't need it in bread! |
