789977 2009-07-10 00:06:00 I now have "The Plank" starring Eric Sykes and Arthur Lowe and most of the others including Doris Day, in three parts from uTube. (60s fun search)
:D

Arthur Lowe was from my village, his parents had the paper shop.

789978 2009-07-10 00:21:00 I read a biography of Arthur Lowe, apparently in real life his Captain Mannering character was pretty much for real, that was how he was. This would explain Laura's hard going when she interviewed him.

Edit: Incidently I just had a problem with a YouTube url using Firefox and tried it with IE 6, there was a message that they are phasing out support for IE6 shortly. Presumably they mean IE6 may not work on that site ?

789979 2009-07-10 00:42:00 Was it another well known DD, Diana Dors?

The VHS I have contains The Plank and Rhubarb.
Diana Dors is in "The Plank" in the credits but was not listed when I looked at Wikipedia.

I should have spelt his name as Mainwaring..............

I can't see the connection with the twit Goodwin on YouTube?????????? Never heard of him.

Any how, I hate comedians who endlessly laugh inanely at their own feebleness. They do it in an attempt to make themselves sound funnier :yuck:

The connection with Goodwin was with "the commedians."

I prefer The Comedian Harmonists,

Even knowing German wont help much in translating all the lyrics of this song :)

A great singing group from the 1930s, a fine film about them was made in 1997, can be bought on DVD.

789986 2009-07-10 09:47:00 I wish I did John, old films, especially old British films are hard to find.

The first port of call I make is SurfTheChannel, www.surfthechannel.com lots of movies and docos links there.

Then there is Veoh.com and VeohTV, Megavideo, Google.video, DailyMotion, Guba, all worth a look, and an online video guide at www.ovguide.com

You really need to be able to capture .tmp files too, I use Unlocker and then save as .flv files

Edit:but you find things are changing all the time as the Copyright Ghouls get to work, even on 1920s and 30s stuff, and especially on YouTube. Time Warner is bad at axing old films, film clips and music from the 30s they still claim to have copyright on.

Argg.. I tried to put an Icon on the desktop for "Ovguide" expecting to get a small couloured Icon like all the rest.

Instead I got a thumbnail page of it up at the top right corner. How can I get rid of this. Thanks. PJ
