790950 2009-07-11 10:56:00 I was watching the DVD of Jimmy Page playing live at Madison Square Garden back in 1973 in the film The Song Remains The Same. I've had a few opportunities to watch this film having seen it about ten times before it got on DVD, and ten or more so times since the DVD came out.

On the basis his playing in that concert alone, he has to be the best guitar player to have ever graced the planet.

Over to you Metla.

790953 2009-07-11 11:19:00 I have no idea, nor do I really care for the argument over who the best ever may be, if there is a best ever. I respect all the greats and plenty of the not so greats.

Though this blows me away.

I have to agree with Metla on this, but here are some of the mains ones I have heard and like.
Carlos Santana
Eric Clapton
David Gilmour
Snowy White
Jeff Beck
Brian May
Joe Walsh
Hank Marvin
and lots of unknowns I have on my DVDs.
