877022 2010-04-15 23:04:00 Hi all

Updating the look of the SWMBOs site using a grid layout based off typogridphy framework.

nznappies.co.nz

The site works fine in all browsers i have tested in except in IE8s compatibility mode, which i assume means IE6 and IE7 layouts are screwed, this appears to effect the menu at the top (the layout is all my coding for that bit, go figure eh), also I believe the footer might be stuffed up to, however it looks fine in compatibility mode but in Super preview IE6 mode the footer looks stuffed.

So anyhelp would be appreciated

and I really do have to track down my old win 98 discs so i can test in IE6 (using vpc of course)

edit---- IE8 in normal mode is fine

877023 2010-04-15 23:18:00 Be aware that IE6 does not support all CSS2.1 standards, and does not support CSS3 at all.

Rather than using IE8 Compatibility View, you would be better using something like browsershots.org for getting an idea of how the layout displays on a broad range of platforms.

Yeah i know but people still use IE6, and as for browsershots its useful and i had forgotten about it, but it doesn't help you diagnose the problem past a certain point besides I always forget to have a page with limited content so i can see the footer

I did have a conditional statement here but it just doesn't seem to work

Unfortunately in IE6 the footer has a huge gap, if i decrease the height of the footer it vanishes off the page, which is stumping me a bit, its almost as if there is a big margin somewhere, but i can't find it, and it doesn't occur in IE8 or other browsers

877026 2010-04-16 04:57:00 People may still use IE 6 but most sites will be dropping it / no longer be supporting it. Google is one of them Speedy Gonzales (78)

Yep but you still need to support it, as there are still lots of people using it, through either ignorance, or using an old comp, or being on the old corporate windows 2000 systems or just because they are familiar with it.

As long as the site is functional in IE6, i am happy and not too concerned with the odd bit of weirdness, but i would just like to solve it, as it should be do-able

877028 2010-04-17 02:09:00 I wouldnt worry about ie6 too much, I havent got IE6 handy to test it, might later hueybot3000 (3646)
877029 2010-04-17 03:54:00 I have installed ie6 in vpc, and the only issue is the footer, unfortunately developer tools for ie6 doesn't work on nt4, bastards!!! Morgenmuffel (187)
877030 2010-04-17 04:27:00 Yes, I got it fixed put a
<br style="clear:both"/>
between the content and the footer and it worked

i also tried firebug lite in IE6, but it became very unstable and IE kept crashing

877031 2010-04-17 05:53:00 Alternatively use a div to clear. Probaly better than a <br> hueybot3000 (3646)
