876810 2010-04-15 06:54:00 Hi Team

I eventually gave up on the search for a unified theory for Outlook conversion, God, the Universe and all that stuff, and bought a conversion program that did the deed for me. It converted 1.6GB from 2000/ANSI to 2003/UNICODE in about 10 minutes and all is well on that front now. Should have done it days ago!

So, I now have the converted PST file set up on my data drive and need to get rid of or rename the existing file that is hiding on the C: drive somewhere so that I can point Outlook at the new file. Problem is, I can't find it. It is supposed to be in C:|Documents & Settings\[user name]\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook, but it isn't, there's just a couple of other bits and pieces but no PST.

I've enabled system file viewing etc, and a search finds the converted file no problems, which it didn't do prior to enabling etc. I know the original PST is there somewhere. because it picked up 10 messages when I forgot to unplug the network cable! That was weird, I was previewing some incoming in Mailwasher, on the old box then I blinked and they were gone. Gave me quite a turn until I worked out what had happened.

Any ideas?

Cheers

BTW, the three files I found at the designated address are Outlook.nk2, .srs & .xml

876811 2010-04-15 07:44:00 Use outlook to import the new pst and it will give the option to overwrite the existing one or copy alongside saving original data. But yes it should be in the location suggested but might be hiding under all users have found that before. those 3 files correspond to what is on SWMBO's computer gary67 (56)
876812 2010-04-15 08:24:00 To locate any pst file on the PC, ( this is for XP) open search / all files and folders, type in *.pst , make sure you select hidden and system files ( in advanced) as well in the search, it will scan the Drive and locate - when you find the one you want, right click it, open location (or words to that effect). wainuitech (129)

Nope, not there either, or in any of the other folders. Inbox/Properties/Advanced says it is in the App Data/Microsoft/Outlook/*** folder too, so I think I will try loading up my trusty ZTree and that will find it for sure.

876814 2010-04-15 10:45:00 Well, it is pretty much all done now! I renamed the current PST using ZTree, which found it exactly where it was supposed to be, so how MS hid it I do not know, and that let me open up the converted file which is working fine.

Renaming allowed me to remove the residuals of that profile as well, and there's there's a bit of tidying up to do on the files themselves but the worst is over.

Thanks to all for the input and assistance.

Cheers
