2010-04-15 00:59:00 I currently have 2x1GB Corsair xms2 ddr2 800 modules installed on a Gigabyte ep35-ds3p motherboard. Have been thinking of upgrading for a few weeks but just saw the 2x2GB xms2 modules I had my eye on have gone up from $159 to $209 at computer lounge www.computerlounge.co.nz :crying I then saw the 2x2GB Patriot Signature ddr2 800 modules are only $149 www.computerlounge.co.nz I've never used Patriot before, is it good memory? Does it overclock at all? Even if it could get to ddr2 850 or 900 I would be very happy, as I hope to run an FSB 1700-1800 overclock with memory 1:1. If it doesn't get that high it wouldn't be a deal breaker as I may just run FSB 1600. Mainly I just feel that with ddr2 prices steadily rising its now or never to upgrade while still at a reasonable price. Would sell Corsair ram on Trademe, or hoard it. Running Vista 32 bit, yes - I realise it will only recognise ~3.3GB Active (15098)
2010-04-15 01:20:00 No experience with those particular memory modules, but getting a set with timings of 4-4-4-12, and backing those off to 5-5-5-15 will generally give some headroom for overclocking. jackM (14814)
2010-04-15 05:44:00 I will have a 2x2GB set of Corsair Dominator DDR2 800. As you may already know the Dominators are Corsair's top of the line memory. Would be surprised if it doesn't go to at least 900MHz. Flick me a PM. qazwsxokmijn (102)
2010-04-15 06:44:00 Thanks for the offer qazwsxokmijn, but I think all the Dominators have heat spreaders on them, in which case they won't fit under the Freezer Pro 7 cooler I'm getting delivered tomorrow. Would they work alright installed on slots 2 and 4? I thought that wasn't such a good idea? Cheers. Active (15098)
2010-04-15 07:43:00 A friend of mine has his RAM sticks in slots 2 and 4 because slot 1 is dead. He still has dual channel and it works just fine. It's a P5Q, though, but I do think it should be fine for your board. Contact GB to make sure.

Fit the cooler in and see if it blocks slot 1 at all.
