792405 2009-07-17 05:18:00 Got a buddy with ROXIO and no matter what he does, NOTHING that ROXIO rips can be played on anything but a computer where ROXIO also resides, although it never seems to call for the program to play the DVDs .

It just has to be there for the DVD to actually play . You can play it in WMP, WinAmp, Power DVD and a lot of other programs, but ROXIO has to actually be in the system somewhere for it to play!

Discs burned w/ROXIO will NOT play on my DVD home theater (Phillips or Sony) players - they say "NO DISC" and just shut off .

Any way to get around this association-thing?

792406 2009-07-17 06:20:00 Use a different software? hueybot3000 (3646)
792407 2009-07-17 06:25:00 It's not a case of the disks not being "Finalised" is it? Once the finalisation process has been run, they should run on any machine, but if they're not finalised it would make sense that only the program that wrote the file could read it... johcar (6283)
792408 2009-07-17 07:04:00 There is a setting I think its to do with the finalisation process.
I think there is 3 options and hes not selecting the one that lets you play on any computer.

(Just going off memory.... I could be full of crap)

792409 2009-07-17 07:10:00 It IS Friday night after all Rob - if you're like me you're sitting with an open beverage beside your PC. So your memory's accuracy will depend on your current level of consumption.... johcar (6283)
792410 2009-07-17 07:12:00 I finish work at midnight and will most definitely partake in some memory destroying liquid refreshments  rob_on_guitar (4196)
792411 2009-07-17 09:18:00 I use Roxio SJ, and have no problems at all. Must be a configuration error, or if he's using the latest version, one of those wonderful 'undocumented features'.

Has he RTFM? Roxio can be a bit obtuse and you have to really search for answers. Maybe there's a Roxio forum and they might take time out from weaving heavy duty ropes to hang overweight software designers to offer some constructive advice.

Cheers

792412 2009-07-17 16:41:00 I think he's prolly not using the finalizing feature correctly - if at ALL.

You're right though - ROXIO is rather obtuse and makes it hard to intelligently navigate the various screens. I'll give him a copy of DVD Shrink for better results.

I cannot in my wildest imagination see him navigating the Nero stuff at all! LOL

I have about 20 "discards" that he made and hisself cannot play on anything he owns. I can, however get them to play on a couple of my 'puters, but that's about it. They cannot be re-burned by Shrink nor can I create an image of the discs either.

Must be no closure at all! For the disc or ME!

792413 2009-07-18 11:21:00 Use Nero, preferably nothing older than version 6, and you'll be fine. Agent_24 (57)

And once again.

What O/S is being run on the buddy computer and also the other computer.

A long time ago I used Roxio CDCreator.

Did not work after I upgraded the O/S

Nero wants to install InCD anyway usually.
